Celebrating the New Year's Eve in Rio de Janeiro is the route not only for many internationals celebrities but for 2 millions of people, just in the Copacabana beach.

The city is a big party. We, from this blog, were invited to a party in the Forte Copacabana, but We could buy tickets for one of the thousands parties in the Beaches, streets, avenues, hotels, houses, bars, museum, restaurants, ships, night clubs and even in the Sugarloaf.

However we started the celebrations calmly in the bar Cervantes in Copacabana, with it famous best sandwiche in the Rio and the delicious Brazilian beer. After that we crossed the Copacabana beach by walking, between the shows and the parties in the avenue Atlântica, until the Historical Fort Copacabana, our destiny, where we saw the fireworks, toasting with champagne.

Nothing better than starting the New Year on the sunset of the Ipanema Beach after the party.

"The coming of 2010 is expected to be absolutely unforgettable in the Wonderful City. The parties, always very lively, shall be varied in tastes and styles to please those who have chosen Rio de Janeiro to spend their Réveillon (New Year’s Eve). For those who have not yet made up their minds, here are a few tips for celebrating in hotels, bars and restaurants, to make your choice easier and guarantee your fun on the last minutes of 2009.

Thinking of your Réveillon in Rio brings the memory of Copacabana beach, which attracts millions of people every year. This time, the party shall be focusing on nine wishes: Renovation, Prosperity, Peace, Happiness, Friends and Family, Love, Brazil and Future. The main stage shall be featuring attractions such as Paralamas do Sucesso, Lulu Santos, Fundo de Quintal and the drums of Salgueiro samba school, as well as guest DJs. Musical attractions shall be divided between four stages that shall be scattered between Leme and Posto 6 (lifeguard station 6) featuring shows by Maria Gadú, Roberta Sá, Pedro Luiz, Ed Motta, Blitz, Leo Jaime, Afrolata and Bangalafumenga;"

"Nothing compares with New Year’s Eve in Rio. Midnight is celebrated all along the beaches, but especially in Copacabana. 2.5 million people crowd together on the beach and the road, which is closed to traffic. Including the other beaches and the Lagoon around 5 million people come out celebrate New Year and take part in the greatest demonstration of peace the world has ever seen. Almost everyone wears white. The champagne bottles pop, accompanying the swish and crack of the fireworks in a display that grows in color, form and duration with each year that passes.

The apartment buildings and hotels are a blaze of light as parties warm up for midnight and people crowd to the windows to watch the festivities below. Around 11pm people start to leave home and join the throngs in the streets.The roads are closed and traffic is reduced almost to zero. The crowds surge towards the beach, united by happiness and hope for the coming year. Copacabana retains its New Years Eve traditions, and the beach is illuminated by thousands of candles as Christian and Afro-Brazilian religions mix and make their offerings and promises for the New Year.

The surf is full of red roses and white gladioli as people make their offerings to the Queen of the Sea, Iemanjá, and even small model boats are launched full of flowers. On the stroke of midnight the fireworks display starts.The sky lights up as the cry "Happy New Year" is heard in many languages as millions turn to embrace family, friends and strangers. The memories will not only be recorded on film and video, but in the hearts of the millions who participate. After midnight the party continues with beer, hot-dogs and music. Stages on Copacabana beach and others spread around the city, will provide music for dancing until dawn, when the hotels will provide the first delicious breakfast of the new year".

The World Tallest Christmas Tree in Rio

The Tree is inaugurated with a huge show of fireworks, lighting effects, famous artists and singers, Symphonic Orchestra and Choir.






Every year, there is a Christmas Tree in the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Rio de Janeiro.

The Tree was 76 meters high and recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the tallest floating Christmas Tree of the world. Today, its height reaches 85 meters. As the time went by, light cannons, movements, water ballet and an electronic carillon with tolling bells and Christmas songs were added to the other attractions.

This is the 14th consecutive edition of the Bradesco Christmas Tree which has been included already in the official agenda of Rio de Janeiro. Happy Christmas!

Danish Cultural Institute Promotes Danish Band with two Brazilan Chorals in Rio, Nov/29/2009

The Danish Cultural Institute will promote show of the BrasiliDansk Band with the Children and Youth Choral (coral infanto juvenil da UFRJ ) and the Madrigal Contemporâneo Choral in the UFRJ Music College (Escola de Música da UFRJ), located in the 98 Passeio St., Centro(Downtow), Rio de Janeiro at 5:30 pm.

World Urban Forum 5 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies. These are the focus of the World Urban Forum V that Rio will host in 22-26March, 2010.



The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, the UN-HABITAT, expects the forum will attract around 15.000 participants. The press expect 20.000 people. The theme for Rio 2010 is "The right to the City– bridging the urban divide".

The main participants are government leaders, ministers, mayors, diplomats, members of national, regional and international associations of local governments, non-governmental and community organizations, professionals, academics, grassroots women’s organizations, youth and slum dwellers groups as partners working for better cities.

Registration is free and all participants are expected to pay for their own travel and accommodation.
